Celtdown at the Meltdown
Henry Strater Theatre, Saturday, 7:00-12:00 pm
(Admission free with Meltdown wristband or $10 at the door)
The Durango Bluegrass Meltdown presents an evening of traditional Irish and Scottish music. The Westwind Pipeband will march from the Diamond Belle saloon to the Theatre to open the show. Girls Night Out featuring the vocals of Geanna Whittan will then lead off a series of short sets by some of the areas finest Celtic musicians. Don Cooke and Luann Andrew will perform Celtic and Celtic-influenced American tunes on fiddle and 5-string banjo.
Next will be Giant’s Dance with traditional Irish ballads and dance tunes played on fiddle, flute, penny whistle, bodhran and guitar. Sylvia Zurko will follow with mesmerizing traditional and original compositions on the harp.
At 8:45 Mondragon, our featured performers from the Denver area, will play their unique style of traditional tunes and songs with the occasional unexpected twist. Following their stage set the band will leave the microphones behind and host an open jam session in the theatre for musicians of all levels.
