The Badly Bent
 
 

Winners of the coveted 2005 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition. The Badly Bent has been entrenched in the bluegrass music scene since 1997. The Badly Bent has proven its musicianship through the winning of prestigious music competitions and receiving accolades from many of its peers in the bluegrass industry. The Badly Bent released its second CD, "Olive or Twist" in April of 2007. The Badly Bent is comprised of Patrick Dressen (guitar, vocals), Robb Brophy (mandolin, vocals), Jimmy Largent(bass), and Mark Epstein (banjo, vocals). www.thebadlybent.com

 

Rock and Rye
 
 

Rock & Rye is a Durango bluegrass band that focuses mainly on traditional bluegrass music.  The band formed in 2005 for David's 30th birthday party to play at a bar that has since burnt down.  Now entering 2008 the band is a "Stable" 5 piece with Bruce Allsopp on banjo, Steve Williams on bass, David Smith on guitar, Robin Davis on guitar and Jeff Hibshman on mandolin.  The band is honored to sometimes play as a 6 piece bluegrass powerhouse band with local fiddle wonder Red Greer joining in the fun.  Look for this lineup of Rock and Rye playing well into the summer of 2008.  The band is looking forward to continuing in the ways of bringing good times to audiences.www.myspace.com/rockandrye

Down The Road
 

  DOWN THE ROAD consists of the most accomplished, bluegrass musicians in the Durango area. They play because of their love for the music and it shows. Their exceptional vocal harmonies blend with excellent instrumentation, stage presentation and unique song selections provide the listener with the ultimate in entertainment. They have presented a first class gospel program at the Meltdown for the last four years and will do so again this year. Be sure to attend both their secular and gospel sets for a very enjoyable performance!
Down the Road  members are: Don Cooke (mandolin, vocals), Hugh Felt (banjo, vocals), Dave Sime (guitar, dobro, vocals), Grey Howell (fiddle), Connie Morse (bass, vocals).
Howard Cattle Company
 
  The Howard Cattle Company is a family band based in Bayfield, Colorado.  They are comprised of  Hannah Howard (guitar, fiddle),  Jay Howard (guitar), Max Howard (guitar, banjo ), Sammy Howard (mandolin), Sophie Howard (mandolin), Vickie Howard (bass).

Deep Blue Creek

 
 

This eclectic band's influences range from Bill Monroe and Gillian Welch to Aretha Franklin and Tim O'Brien. Throw in some Russian gypsies and you have the unique sound of Deep Blue Creek. Their music is a blend of hard-driving bluegrass rhythms and slow, soulful harmonies. They have been playing together in Durango for over eight years, and this is their 5th Durango Meltdown. On lead guitar andvocals is Rich "Goose" Gustafson. On mandolin and vocals is Pat McManus. On rhythm guitar and vocals is Bethany McManus, and on bass is the talented Jimmy Largent.

Blue Moon Ramblers
   

The Blue Moon Ramblers are a Durango tradition. George Usinowicz (banjo) began playing Sundays at the Strater Hotel's Diamond Belle Saloon with the Marmot Mudflaps in 1986. A few years later he and Red Greer (fiddle) founded the Blue Moon Ramblers and continued the Belle's Sunday night tradition. Veteran Durango musician Jenny Winegardener (guitar, bass) joined early on, adding her beautiful whiskey toned vocals. The band recently welcomed Glenn "Junior" Keefe (bass).  Also, the band will be joined by Peter Neds (not pictured) ; one of the hottest country guitarists to ever call Durango home. They've been playing their unique blend of country and bluegrass to appreciative crowds at the Belle all these years. They are the only band who has played all 13 Durango Meltdowns. Ranger Rick & the Swamp Things

Start with a good patch of Bluegrass, sprinkle in some Old Time and Western, add a pinch of something from the “Swamp” and you have the acoustic sound of Ranger Rick & the Swamp Things! Members of this local group based out of Cortez, Colorado are Kathy Jane Ryan on Mandolin and vocals, Charla Mae Nettleton on Bass and vocals, Rick Quinn on the “Stomach Steinway,” Bill Davis on Dobro and Ranger Rick on Guitar and vocals...

Waiting On Trial
Combining youth and energy, Waiting On Trial is the newest addition to Durango's amazing bluegrass scene. These Fort Lewis College students are influenced by anything and everything. Waiting On Trial plays high-energy bluegrass. The band consists of Eric Elliot (mandolin), Ryan Doty (guitar), Garrett Sartori (dobro), Ryan Zerris (bass), and Chris Lane (banjo).
Giants Dance
  Giant's Dance celebrates the reverent and irreverent traditions of world Celtic music. Giant's Dance offers original and tradition music, soulful vocal harmonies, and astonishing acoustic instrumentals. The trio includes Kevin Dawson on vocals, fiddle, and bodhran, Karen Cunningham on flutes vocals, and pennywhistles, and Steve Cunningham on guitar and vocals. Giant's Dance has been honored to perform for the past three years at the Celtdown at the Meltdown
